      Free Standing Birth Centers are an important option between the structure of hospitals and concerns about homebirth.  Sacramento has only one "The Birth Center" and it is highly recommended.

   Doulas provide women to women support during pregnancy, labor, birth and postpartum.  A doula will mother the mother.  Doulas provide the experience and support you need to have a natural birth.

Valley Foothill Doula Collective, a doula referral service is highly recommended.

   Mom Networks will help you remain sane during this transition.  Women and babies are social creatures and should not be isolated.  A moms group will allow you to build friendships and provide and outlet for you to ask questions, get tips and vent frustrations.

Mother's Support Network is A-Z  with programs empowering Sacramento families and is highly recommended.

Mothering Magazine will help you to parent straight from the heart giving you practical tips, research and providing community and is highly recommended

   Knowledge is power! The more you know about childbirth the more confidence you have and trust in the process. 

Birthing From Within is highly recommended for anyone desiring a natural childbirth.  This book will  inspire and affirm what you already know, of course you are strong and able to give birth!

Mother Friendly Initiative is highly recommended to promote the well being of the entire family.

Lamaze.org is highly recommended providing research supporting the normalcy of labor, birth, and breastfeeding.

Comfort in Labor is highly recommended a booklet you can download with time tested coping techniques.

La Leche League is highly recommended providing complete support, information, and research for pregnant and nursing women.

Breastfeeding.com is highly recommended providing A++ support, information, community and advocacy for nursing women and their families.

Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative is highly recommended a global program sponsored by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) to encourage and recognize hospitals and birthing centers that offer an optimal level of care for lactation. They list baby friendly hospitals near you.  All babies are entitled to a baby friendly hospital as a birthright. 

International Cesarean Awareness Network is highly recommended working to  improve maternal-child health by preventing unnecessary cesareans through education, providing support for cesarean recovery, and promoting Vaginal  Birth After Cesarean (VBAC). 

    Baby Care is a vast subject with many different opinions.  It will seem like forever, but you will figure out what works best for this particular baby and for your family.
